Join Me in Namibia on one of our photo tours
If reading this section of my website has stirred your soul and ignited a desire to experience Namibia firsthand, I extend a warm invitation: Join me on a photography adventure in Namibia! There’s only so much one can convey through words and images on a page – the real magic happens in person, under the vast African sky with camera in hand and dust on your boots. I would be thrilled to share the experience of Namibia with you, guiding you to these incredible locations and helping you apply all the tips and techniques we’ve discussed, in real time.
Each year, through Akari Photo Tours, I lead small-group workshops and tours to Namibia’s most photogenic destinations (and some hidden gems too). These are not just trips, but immersive experiences where we chase light, wait for stars, seek out wildlife, and connect with local cultures together. Picture yourself standing at the edge of Deadvlei as the sun comes up, our group quietly clicking shutters during those fleeting perfect moments. Or imagine an evening at Spitzkoppe, where after capturing sunset we sit around a campfire, share stories, and then venture out again at midnight to shoot the Milky Way. In those shared moments, photography becomes more than an individual pursuit – it becomes a camaraderie of like-minded creatives.
What to expect on a Namibia photography tour with me:
Expert Guidance: I’ll be there to provide hands-on help, whether it’s finding the right composition, dialing in settings for a tricky scene, or giving feedback on shots. Think of it as a continuous workshop where learning and shooting go hand in hand. We rise early and rest (a bit) midday, then often have image review sessions or impromptu Lightroom tutorials in the afternoons before heading out again.
Local Knowledge: Over many trips, I’ve cultivated relationships with local guides, communities (like a Himba village we revisit), and learned the rhythms of the land. This means we hit the right places at the right times. You don’t have to worry about logistics – it’s all arranged so we can be where it matters for photography. We also incorporate cultural experiences, like visiting a Himba market or enjoying a traditional braai (barbecue) under the stars, enriching your understanding of Namibia beyond just photos.
Small Group Atmosphere: We keep the group size intimate, usually just 6-8 participants, so everyone gets individual attention and we can be flexible. Photography tours are collaborative and fun – you’ll meet fellow enthusiasts from different walks of life and quickly bond over shared excitement (and the occasional shared challenge, like “wow, that dune climb was tough but look at this view!”). Many past participants remain friends and keep in touch long after, and I take pride in fostering that community spirit.
Unforgettable Moments: Our itinerary typically covers Sossusvlei/Deadvlei, the coast (Walvis Bay or Swakopmund for a change of scenery and maybe a sandwich harbor dune tour), Spitzkoppe, Etosha for wildlife, and the Himba region – basically the chapters of this book come to life. We also remain open to serendipity: if we find an unexpected scene along the way (like a rainbow over the desert, or local children playing soccer at sunset), we might stop and photograph it. Those often become the highlight memories!
And don’t worry if you’re not a seasoned pro. These tours welcome all skill levels. I’ve had complete beginners and veteran shooters travel together; everyone learns from each other. If you’re new, you’ll get a crash course in the field and tons of support. If you’re experienced, you’ll appreciate the well-crafted itinerary and the chance to get shots you’ve dreamed of (while also maybe picking up a new trick or two – there’s always something!).
By joining me in Namibia, you’re not just signing up for a trip – you’re signing up for an adventure where photography is the focus but the personal growth and sheer joy that come with it are equally emphasized. My ultimate goal is for you to leave Namibia with a full memory card, yes, but also with a full heart – with stories to tell, new friends made, and a renewed passion for your craft.
If you feel that tug of excitement reading this, I encourage you to take the next step. Let’s travel together. I truly believe Namibia is one of those places that every passionate photographer should experience at least once. And I would be honored to be by your side as you see it through your own lens for the first time.
